I **** this saying. I have one and I am a married woman. It is called a tramp stamp because the lower back tattoos were really big in the late 90’s on young women that spent a lot of time on the beach showing a lot of skin. Having one doesn’t change you as a person. The point of a tattoo is that you shouldn’t care what people think about it, so don’t worry about your husband being afraid it will make you look like a tramp. Tattoos are a form of art, and the back is a canvas for it.

Because your lower back is right above your butt, and the tattos draw attention to that general area. But no he isn’t right. Their location doesn’t really have THAT much significance. My MOTHER got one a couple of months ago.

That is what they are called in the bar scene. They are called that because women who have this tattoo are seen as easy by immature drunkards.

The term originated in the mid to late 60’s, strippers/women of the night were stamped with a tattoo of their owner–in some communities it is still occurring–tramp stamps became a common slang among strip club owners and managers on the practice.

It is called that because, yes it does attract attention to your butt, and because its something that i man will see when he is banging you from behind. Of course it doesnt matter what other people think of your tattoo as long as you are happy. The matter of if a tattoo if cool or not is completely a matter of opinion anyway. Do what you want, its your body girlfriend!

They are also called a55 hats! I think that one’s pretty hilarious. I have one, it was my first, and I got it to remind myself that I’m a strong, independent woman and can depend on me to get me through anything!
But yes, immature drunkards tend to believe that any woman with one is easy (aka a tramp). Ridiculous. Tattoos are art, and should be treated as such.

i think its more because its become way to common for alot of people an they want to make up a name for them that isnt pleasant in hopes people will get them other places instead. also its just catchy name an its something for someone to blab out of their piehole so they think they know some cool lingo. but they really in fact havent thought about why they would even say that.
(although i dont have one myself this is just an observation)

who cares what people think. It is your body and if you want one, go for it. If someone is going to label you a tramp because of your tattoo placement, they are narrow-minded and judgemental and not worth another thought.

How would you like it if your husband got a tattoo of a ***** women who did not look like you???? or if he got a tattoo of his former girlfriend or ex-wife???? Most women in the U.S. like to draw LOTS of attention to themselves which I think is fine… but when you get married you need to rein it in a little ladies. I’m not an advocate of the Taliban, I’m not saying to never leave the house without your burka or head-veil…just show some respect to your husband. The reason he’s not comfortable with it is because you are going WAY OUT of your way to draw attention to yourself and there are negative views in most parts of the U.S. with women having tattoos….if your husband is not down with it DONT DO IT!!!! I’ve never been married and am not a fan of tattoos (serious health risk, trashy aesthetic) especially on women, if my wife got a tattoo after I objected I would divorce her *** in a heartbeat.

ask your husband he will tell you why

I think it’s stupid that they are called tramp stamps. I don’t understand why they are trampy yet people who get tattoos that are visible all the time aren’t….I have gotten 3 tattoos on my back, and the reason they are there is so they can always be covered…which doesn’t sound trampy to me!

Don’t listen to that nonsense. you really want your tattoo on your lower back then get it. I have a pretty big one on my lower back and I don’t hear that kinds of things (maybe cause I live all the way out in Hawaii). Do what makes you happy all those other people are just haters. lol!
