Why do women put tattoos on their low-lower back?

lower back tattoos
TONY S asked:

My 22-year-old niece recently returned from vacation in Amsterdam, Holland, with a tribal tattoo on her lower back…you know, way down low. I asked her why girls put tattoos there, instead of on shoulders or whatever, and she said it’s because nobody can see it there unless you want them to. Was she joshing me? What is the reason girls put tattoos there?

Because they look well sexy, I have a sexual lizard on my lower back and I love it!

    I personally **** it.

How stereotypical!! How predictable, how expected of any young female in this society!!!

    Conformity via self-mutilation is disgusting.

Ignorant and arrogant, too. Being their own independent, self-expressing person, attempting to be a non-conformist rebel… all by doing what all the other rebels do.

Show me ONE female between the ages 17 and 28 in non-country regions in the USA that doesnt have a tattoo on their lower back, wrist, or ankle. They dont exist.

And when women argue that its **** or aesthetically pleasing, I can only scoff and say, you never asked me… how prejudice of them to assume that all men… all people… would think so.

You can always get tattoos… you cant so easily remove them. So why put yourself in that position? If *** appeal is what youre after then why not wait to be sure that the person you want to impress, permanently, is the type that likes tats.

Not to mention that the sexualisation of tattoos, by placement and style, only proves how superficial and sexually oriented a person can be. Not to my tastes, at all.

You know whats really ****? Skin. I like a girls skin!!! If I want to look at art I will go to a museum. The tattoos are only distractions and detract from the inherent *** appeal.

Heres why I am getting down-thumbs:
    1) People are personally offended that they may actually be unattractive to me… and that partly is because of what they did to themselves
    2) My statements pull the rug out from under people, putting their ridiculous pre-conceptions set by society into doubt. Scary thought.

And to think… all Ive said was that I dont like tattoos and for good, justifiable reason.

My personal sexual preferences would make a tatted girl unattractive to me.

I see a lot of them on the street, so her theory is somewhat BS, I think. They seem fairly public. Saw one yesterday.

As to why, I think it’s a trend, a fashion.

  4. C_G Says:

It is very aesthetically pleasing. I think that a nice tattoo there is very flattering and pretty. Geez though a tattoo in Amsterdam is a pretty risky thing to do, I hope they used the autoclave system to sterilise.

  5. simmon_1999 Says:

its a target for us men

  6. Cassie T Says:

No. They put ‘em there because everyone else puts ‘em there, and most people don’t think for themselves.

It’s called a Tramp Stamp. A meaningless, generic tattoo placed on the lower back of a young woman who is more concerned with looking **** for men than she is with pleasing herself.

  7. Blue T Says:

Many men thinks that it is to show that they are easy. Draw your own conclusions.

To get the tattoo noticed by others

    to attract attention there

  10. spunion2 Says:

well, the tattoo I wanted to get was too big to nicely fit anywhere else. I got 3 Hawaiian flowers and vines, and it not have looked right, say, if I got it on my calf or my arm. My lower back just seemed like an appropriate place to put it. Your neice does have a point though, even if I wear a tank top, nobody has to know I have a tattoo.

  12. Shy Says:

Placement and tattoo’s do go hand in hand…ask any tattoo artist. Has for the lower back tattoo’s, it really does accentuate the curviest part of a womans body. It truly is a wonderful idea for placement. It has however become trendy…oh well. It is an inconspicuous spot that can be totally covered.I would say the majority of women didn’t get one there to be overtly sexy, but because the placement is wonderful and easily hidden. Some tattoo’s wouldn’t look right anywhere else on the body.

  13. Says:

well idk. But their is a name for them that you could tell her about. stamps.

  14. Katie Says:

i have one on my lower back. i love it. no one can see it unless i want them too.

  15. radar Says:

Simple, it is a Tramp Stamp. It pays to label things so you know what you are getting.

Only things missing on the Tramp Stamp are the ‘expiration’ and ‘use before dates.’

  16. Stephanie C Says:

Alot of you assume that all females who get tattoo’s are doing it for someone else. Yes, I have a tattoo and plan to get another but my reason for getting it have nothing to do with being **** or for anyone else to see. I got my tattoo as a celebration of my new life after I finally ended my 10 year marriage. My next tattoo will be a memorial tattoo for the week last December when I lost both of my grandmothers and gave birth to my second daughter.

  17. fiVe Says:

There are only so many places you can get a tattoo that can easily becovered by most clothing. The back is a good one.

  18. cassie Says:

Well the only reason I can give you is she put it there because that is where she wanted it. It is a good spot for a placement because you can hide it if you need to, also the skin is less likely to be effected by weight gain and age. There are othe spots you can place to hide them, but if that is the area that appeals to a person nobody else has the right to tell them not to. Putting the art on your body is a personal expression and so they should be able to place them wherever they feel.

Cogito, you forgot to include a thumbs down reason, I don’t care if you like tattoos. If you **** them then get out of the tattoo section and climb on your soapbox somewhere else. I don’t understand how it is considered conformist to get a tattoo, yet people can tell you to conform to their beliefs of not getting tattoos. I do not have a lower back tattoo, but I do love my tattoos and if that makes me unappealing to someone else why should I care? I could tattoo my entire face and still be way out of league for some of these people. Life is about making choices, if you feel people make bad ones by getting tattoos then maybe you should examine your own life before preaching to others about theirs.

because we like they way they look!!! its also someplace we can easily cover if our job has a strict dress code and we can contorl who sees them..i think its funny how its a no win situation for us tattooed people..especially girls. if we have a tat in a place that can be covered up..all the judgemental non tattooed people say why would u deform ur body and then hide it..are u ashamed and realizing how stupid u were to get the tattoo? but if we dont cover it up and are proud of our ink then we get things said like well enjoy flipping burgers at mcdonalds because the real world wont hire u…blah blah blah so u know what..we dont get tattoos to please u or offend u..we get them because we like them…do we attack u and say ur stupid and trashy for wearing something that u like? no…its personal preferance so lay off the inked ones!! and fyi i have 2 great jobs that i love (social worker and working in an engineering laboratory) and i am also a college student so dont tell me that i wont get hired because i have tattoos because i had all my tattoos and percings before i got these jobs and im still here!!

oh and p.s for everyone that said i would never date a girl with tattoos i think they are trashy and ugly etc well thats fine because to be honest we dont want u either…we are perfectly capable of finding a man who isnt threatened by a woman who knows what she likes and what she wants and isnt afraid of commiting to something permenant. u probably lost out on a alot of quality girls because u wrote her off and labeled her because she has a lower back tattoo….whose the trashy ignorant one now? how shallow can u be?

  20. Dex Says:

My thought about this is that a lot of people want a tattoo, but feel the white trash feelings so they get the tattoo out of sight and mind. Also on a woman, the lower back, ankle and wrist are places that do not stretch during pregnancy so that could be a reason as well. I saw a tattoo that was around a belly button of a woman who has a kid. The pregnancy destroyed the tattoo. Well I hope this helped

  21. cpt m Says:

No, she wasn’t joshing you….she’s right. If she picked a nice delicate and feminine tat and depending on the artist, it could
    be very ****.
The small of the back if very sensual…
If she wants to show it, she can wear low cut jeans and a belly
    top…..
Yes, it is somewhat of a fad now…..but, you can easily tell a Tramp Stamp from a good tattoo that fits the person.

  22. hailey c Says:

i had mine there as its only part of my body i liked and only poart of my body my tiger cub looked nice on

    There are as many
    different reasons
    as there are women.
    But mostly it’s because,
    it’s really popular now.
It’s the look at me sign of the times.
If shaking your tail feathers, isn’t
getting the job done, putting a sign
there, is bound to help you get noticed.
