How bad do lower back tattoos hurt?

I have an appointment to get a tattoo on my lower back it is about 6 inches long and 2 inches tall and will be centered on my back. I am excited but was just wondering about the pain level. My boyfriend and I are going to get tattoos together so he will be there to distract me. I got my ******* pierced and that hurt, but the pain went away after about two hours. So how bad will the lower back tat hurt??
